Ed Hale as The General shotgun image04

Jill Kahn, photographer recalls: I receive a call one day from Ed Hale, singer guitar player from the local indie-rock band Transcendence. He's all hyped up as usual. Jill I have this idea for a photo shoot. When can we set it up? I'm bringing a flag, a guitar, an Army General's uniform, and a football. Do you have any guns? Knowing Ed and having worked with the band before, I wasn't even surprised. With Ed you just go for the action of the moment. However he is inspired. The photo shoot took place in the Spring of 2004 just before he moved to New York. He had a definite idea and message he was trying to get across. It was a very creative session.

Ed Hale on Peace Delegation to Iran 2008

Photos and stories from the February 2008 Peace Delegation to the country of Iran with the Fellowship of Reconciliation featuring Transcendence lead singer Ed Hale and 13 other American Delegates handpicked by FOR to fly to Iran and meet with government and religious leaders there in order to discuss ways to foster more peace and harmony between the two countries. This is something known as Civilian Diplomacy or Track Two Diplomacy for those who are interested in learning more about the subject. It was the first time that I really began to understand what the word diplomacy really means... when people from the country known as the Great Satan visit the country known as one from The Axis of Evil -- both ridiculously childish labels by governments with ulterior motives and too much time and money on their hands and not enough integrity or compassion in their hearts -- one really begins to understand that diplomacy means keeping your mouth shut even when it is really difficult, offering courtesy, respect, tolerance, an open heart and open ears, and doing your best just to connect as fellow human beings... in this we will begin to create real peace. All and all we spent 15 days in Iran. The pictures tell a story... and so do the descriptions beneath some of them.

Acoustic in New York album photos

Not many exist digitally today, though some were found recently in a box in their original print form. Only a few are available now and have been taken directly from the original artwork from the album's inner-sleeve, a brilliant work of visual art.by Eduardo Silva, longtime graphic design artist for Hale. Ed Hale circa 1996, New York, NY from the original album photo shoot, Ed had just broken up with the band Broken Spectacles two years earlier and toured the east coast doing solo acoustic shows. Ended up in New York City thinking if he couldn't make it there, he couldn't make it anywhere; Crashing on various couches of friends in the East Village, E 12th st and Broadway to be exact, knocking on a lot of doors - and politely being told no a thousand times, Ed stayed in New York for a year before eventually returning to Florida. He did however manage to record one album as a demo for Sony Records while there which eventually turned into and was released as what is now called the Acoustic in New York album. He turned away from music professionally for two years after that, but continued to explore music and languages. His style changed immensely as can be readily heard on his next release, Rise and Shine, where he introduced his planet music concept and a new band - Transcendence.
